FROM ISO TO DESKTOP
Let's get
you installed.
You will need your ISO, an 8 GB or larger USB drive, and a backup of anything you want to keep.
01 / PREPARE
Choose your image.
Use x64 for a 64-bit Intel or AMD PC. Use ARM64 only for a device with compatible UEFI firmware. If you are unsure about an ARM device or a Mac, check the exact model with us first.
InfinityOS uses UEFI with Secure Boot disabled. Legacy BIOS boot is not supported. Before changing firmware settings on a Windows machine, save your disk-encryption recovery key as well as your files.
Choose your download ↗02 / VERIFY
Check the file.
Compare the SHA-256 result with the checksum on the download page. They must match. If they differ, download the file again before using it.
Open a terminal in the folder containing your ISO. These examples use the x64 filename. For ARM64, replace it with InfinityOS-2.0-Fedora45-GNOME51-aarch64-de337e0.iso.
Windows / PowerShell
Get-FileHash .\InfinityOS-2.0-Fedora45-GNOME51-x86_64-de337e0.iso -Algorithm SHA256macOS / Terminal
shasum -a 256 InfinityOS-2.0-Fedora45-GNOME51-x86_64-de337e0.isoLinux / Terminal
sha256sum InfinityOS-2.0-Fedora45-GNOME51-x86_64-de337e0.iso03 / WRITE THE USB
Make the installer.
Install Fedora Media Writer for Windows, macOS or Linux. Choose a custom image, select your InfinityOS ISO, then select the USB drive and write it.
Check the drive name before writing. This erases everything on that USB drive. Let the write and verification finish, then eject it.
04 / BOOT
Try the live desktop.
Restart the target computer and open its boot menu. Choose the UEFI entry for your USB drive. The key varies by manufacturer; check your computer's manual.
In the InfinityOS boot menu, run the media check, then start the live session. If the display does not work, try the basic graphics entry. Check Wi-Fi, sound and your display before installing.
05 / INSTALL
Choose the right disk.
Open the installer from the live desktop. Choose your language and target disk, then review the storage choices. InfinityOS requires a Btrfs root filesystem.
Read the disk changes before confirming. Erasing a disk removes its existing systems and files. If you want to keep Windows or another system, ask for help with your partition layout before continuing.
Finish installation, shut down and remove the USB drive. Start the computer again to boot the installed system.
06 / FIRST BOOT
Pick your apps.
Connect to the internet and open InfinityUpdater to check for updates. InfinitySetup opens on your first sign-in. Choose the apps you want and press Apply. You can reopen it from the application grid later.
On x64, the installer selects a driver for supported NVIDIA cards. If it could not download the driver during installation, it retries after boot when a connection is available.
